Being nervous about heights does not automatically tell you how you will feel on a tandem paraglider. Standing at the edge of a building, looking down from a balcony and moving through open air under a wing are different sensations. The useful question is whether you understand the sequence well enough to decide if you want to try it.

The launch is often the most mentally intense part

Before takeoff, your brain has time to study the slope, the wing and the space ahead. That anticipation can feel bigger than the flight itself. Listen closely to the pilot’s instructions and do not improvise. A tandem launch works as a coordinated procedure, not a dramatic leap off a cliff.

Once airborne, the sensation changes

Many people imagine a constant falling feeling. Tandem paragliding is designed around gliding flight, not a freefall experience. That does not mean everyone finds it comfortable. Motion sensitivity, turbulence and turns can still matter, and nobody should promise you how your body will react.

Tell the pilot you are nervous

Nervousness is useful information. A good operator should be able to explain the process, answer questions and tell you what is and is not under the pilot’s control. If you feel pressured, rushed or embarrassed for asking basic questions, that is not a great start to an adventure activity.

You are allowed to decide it is not for you

A trip to Medellín does not require paragliding. If fear is overwhelming, a medical issue concerns you, or the conditions and operator do not make you comfortable, skipping the flight is a valid decision. The point is to choose deliberately, not to perform bravery for somebody else.
